Oxidative stress is a situation which develops when the body has an overabundance of free radicals and a deficiency of antioxidants to neutralize them. A number of studies have measured uterine and ovarian blood flow dynamics in women with infertility and have discovered that optimum blood flow is absolutely critical to good ovarian response to gonadotropin stimulation and for implantation and early pregnancy sustenance. Vienna, Feb 3 (IANS) Austrian scientists have found vitamin D's deficiency, long held as a risk factor for diseases like diabetes, may cause infertility among men and women.

This deficiency has also been a risk factor for diseases like osteoporosis, or the thinning of bone tissue and loss of bone density over time.

After analysing numerous studies, the Austrian physicians Barbara Obermayer-Pietsch and Elisabeth Lerchbaum found that vitamin D level was associated with the production of male hormones. More specifically, there was a link between vitamin D and the increase in testosterone levels, subsequently the semen quality, Xinhua reported.

The finding has been published in the European Journal of Endocrinology's latest issue.

According to Obermayer-Pietsch, as vitamin D plays an important role in hormone production also in women, low levels of vitamin D often lead to too much testosterone, which therefore could increase the risk of infertility among women.

The scientists will continue to conduct further scientific studies to find out new therapeutic approaches, including the reproduction of vitamin D.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) – The ups and downs of infertility treatment can take a toll on the families involved. Solace Tree and the Family Grief Center are now offering families an escape who are dealing with this difficult issue.

Teresa Brandise of Henderson has had to deal with her fair share of grief.

“I've had 5 failed pregnancies, two failed adoptions, and then I had two successful adoptions and one of those children was killed in a fatal car accident,”said Brandise.

“You cry and then you find good people to talk to,” she said.

Brandise was able to reach out and get the help that she needed after the loss of a child and several pregnancies. She and others at the Family Grief Center in Henderson want women dealing with this specific loss to have a place to turn.

“Not everybody has the same goals in life. As much as we might want to have children, there's a hundred people out there that don't want to have children,” said Brandise.

“'So finding the right people to listen to your process, I believe, helps you come to clarity and a little bit more peace in your heart as you travel that path,” she said.

And that path is a rough one, about 15 percent of the population suffers from infertility. More and more people than ever before are now seeking treatment. And although there are many successes, it doesn't always end positively.

“I think that in all aspects of medicine the emotional component is under emphasized and it's under treated,” said Dr. Said Daneshmand, a Las Vegas infertility specialist.

“So I think that if we have a program like that it could certainly be beneficial to patients because that's another avenue, another means of support, to get them through this journey to conception,” he said.

The group will start meeting on February 8th at 1pm. It will be a private setting specifically for women and families dealing with infertility treatment or the loss of an infant child.
